Pitch Selection
Your pitch selection depends on what will work best for the current situation. This information will help you in making the right choice. This is dependant on the skill level of your pitcher. You will notice that I do not give any instructions on how to throw a drop ball, curve ball and other breaking stuff on this web site. I could have, but feel strongly enough that a quality coach should be working directly with the athlete when it comes to learning how to throw breaking stuff.
If the batter is Up in the box, throw the fastball on the inside corner. If the batter is back in the box, throw a Curve, Rise or drop to the middle of the strike zone. If the batter is Close to the plate, throw a fastball or curve on the inside corner. If the batter is away from plate, throw a fastball on the outside corner. If the batter has an open stance, throw a fastball or curve on the outside corner. If the batter has a closed stance, throw a fastball or curve on the inside corner. If the batter is an aggressive (over anxious) batter, throw a curve, rise, drop or change up on the outside corner. If the batter is a weak hitter, throw a fastball down the middle. If the batter drops her bat barrel before the swing and then swings with an upward swing path, throw a fastball or rise ball high in the strike zone. If the batter swings down in a chopping motion at the ball, throw her a fastball, drop ball, curve ball or change up.
